This relationship was a historical bridge; Jarawa developed the rare ability to "calculate feet," a skill that made him a crucial link between the dance and drum communities.

As a teenager, he became a core percussionist for the jazz ensemble Deja Vu Noir under Reverend Dr. Dwight Andrews, performing alongside global legends such as Pheeroan akLaff, Jay Hoggard, Nat Adderley Jr., and Geri Allen. While his initial focus was on conga and light percussion, he later dedicated himself to the djembe and dun nun drums under Paul Huggins, eventually traveling to Guinea Conakry, West Africa, for immersive studies in traditional Malinke drumming techniques.
